“We all know someone, perhaps it’s a friend or family member, who has been affected by cancer,” said Pat Bray, President of the Marquette General Foundation. “Acquiring enhanced technology is the most critical and immediate goal of the Cancer Center. This new state-of-the-art technology will ensure that the most advanced radiation treatment care is available close to home.”

The treatment of cancer today requires the use of many modalities. Surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and radiation therapy are well known. Interventional Oncology is a new field for cancer treatment that uses minimally invasive local procedures to target tumors while preserving surrounding tissue and decreasing recovery time for patients.

The Cancer Center offers all of the currently approved methods of cancer diagnosis and treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and clinical research.

Cancer specialists from Marquette visit eight communities throughout the U.P. to see

patients on a regular basis.

The Karmanos Cancer Center and the Marquette General Cancer Center have signed an affiliation agreement to collaborate on cancer care and research. As an affiliate of the Karmanos Cancer Center, the Marquette General Cancer Center will continue to offer unique cancer treatment options, and provide access to higher-level clinical trials to patients living in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. As part of the agreement, physicians at the Marquette General Cancer Center will be a part of the Karmanos Multidisciplinary Team structure. This means cancer patients at the Center in Marquette who need a second opinion may have a built-in review by Karmanos Cancer Center physicians, who will provide input on proposed treatment plans.
