Discharge - Billing Information - Home Care

As discharge approaches you will be given instructions about caring for yourself at home.  You will receive a written copy of these instructions to take with you.
Discharges are often planned for 11:00 AM.  However there are many factors that can delay your discharge.  Although your doctor may tell you verbally that "You can go in the morning."  He must write the order prior to your release.  At that time your nurse will provide discharge teaching related to your medications activity level, diet and return follow-ups before you go home.  If your doctor cannot write your discharge orders before that time, your discharge may be delayed.
Convenient ways to leave the hospital are:

  • Third floor skywalk and parking deck.
  • The Robert C. Neldberg Building canopy.

Your nurse will advise you of the most convenient exit.
If you want an itemized statement of your hospital charges, please notify the Business Office before leaving the hospital at extension 3406.
If you placed items in the hospital safe, you can claim them in the Patient Access office in the Robert C. Neldberg building lobby.  To claim valuables, ask your nurse for the "valuables receipt" filed in your chart.

After discharge, you will receive separate bills from the hospital and from your physician.  If you have medical insurance, the hospital's Business Office will bill your insurance company on your behalf for hospital charges only.  If you have questions about doctor bills, please contact your doctor's office.
Most insurance companies request information directly from the patient.  Please reply promptly to your insurance company so that claims may be processed without delay.
For questions regarding insurance or financial concerns, please call the Business Office between 9:00am and 4:00 EST, Monday through Friday.  Call 225-3406 in the Marquette area, or 1-888-239-5888 from anywhere in the U.S.A. and Canada.
